Check out everything you need to know about Burj Lake, one of the most exciting sightseeing tours in Dubai.
The Burj Lake is a 1,200 square kilometer man-made lake that surrounds the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. This beautifully designed body of water is home to the Dubai Fountain, a performing fountain of 275 meters long that dances to carefully curated pieces of music. Over 6,000 lights and 25 color projectors create a feast for the eyes.
When performing, the fountain has over 83,000 liters of water in the air at any given moment. The fountain performance happens once in the early afternoon and then at regular intervals from around 6 PM to 10 PM or 11 PM depending on the day of the week.
There are many tours that combine a visit to Burj Lake with other activities and locations. These combined activity tours can be a great way to save time and money.
There is no charge to visit the Burj Lake and view the fountain shows, and the body of water and the fountains are visible from every point on the lake. You are, however, able to book an Abra or water taxi, or other boat rides on the lake to place you in prime position for the fountain performance.
These trips range in price from US$20 to US$100 per person, depending on the operator. Some tickets include return hotel transfers, while others do not.
You can also purchase a ticket to the Burj Fountain boardwalk, which offers a new perspective of the show, for around 20 AED (US$5) per person.
If you would like to explore the lake and view the fountain show from the water, it is advisable to make your booking well in advance to prevent disappointment. It is also advisable to purchase tickets to access the walkway in advance.
The Burj Lake and Dubai Fountain are located in downtown Dubai, right beside Dubai Mall and at the foot of the Burj Khalifa. You can reach it by using the Dubai Metro’s red line, followed by the F13 bus to Dubai Mall.
While the lake and fountains can be seen 24 hours a day, boat tours and walkway access typically operate from around 5:30 PM to 11PM, with the last boat departing 30 minutes before the fountain’s last display.
If you are content to view the lake and fountains from the surrounding areas, then wheelchair users and people with other mobility impairments will be able to enjoy the spectacle. Abras and the Walkway are not wheelchair accessible, but the promenade is flat and easy to navigate. The promenade can get quite busy, so ensure an early arrival to get a spot that allows unobstructed viewing.
The best time to visit Burj Lake is during the cooler months from November to March. Evenings are particularly popular as visitors can witness the mesmerizing Dubai Fountain Show on the lake. Visiting during weekdays may offer a less crowded experience, allowing you to enjoy the spectacle in relative tranquility.
