What will you see inside?

The park’s construction began in 1900 when wealthy entrepreneur Eusebi Güell joined forces with Gaudí to create a project consisting of a city of luxurious homes for the rich people of Barcelona of that time. Although the project never took off, it eventually became a park in Gaudí's detailed and precise vision.

Not wanting to waste the stunning designs and wide open spaces that Gaudí had created, the area was made into a big public park in 1926. From there, Park Güell received UNESCO World Heritage Status in 1984, and its vast popularity is measured by the almost 4 million visitors it receives every single year.

At the entrance of the park, the stairway leads up to a majestic structure ornamented with columns. The big square serves as a balcony that overlooks Barcelona and the sea. Here, mosaic-covered benches look like waves. The curvy paths forming an unusual walking route are convenient places to enjoy nature during the walk and to understand Gaudí’s art.

The main entrance (on the southern side) will give you an instant view of the walls and stairs, which are made of rustic stone and tiling in ceramics of various colors. It almost looks like a gingerbread house design! Once inside, you will find different buildings and sections to explore.

The most known parts of the park include the vast and imposing main entrance, tempting visitors in, as well as the Dragon Stairways, the Hypostyle Room, Greek Theatre, Nature Square, Laundry Room Portico, Austria Gardens, and the various viaducts, bridges, and small roads which were designed by Gaudí.

How to get to Park Güell?

The park is situated in Carrer d’Olot, Barcelona and you have a few options. The Bus Güell shuttle service included in your ticket, a 15-minute ride from Alfons X metro to the entrance. The Barcelona Hop on Hop Off Bus also takes you to the park. The nearest metro station is Vallcarca, on line number 3.

The most sustainable option is to take an escalator by the Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya, which leads you to the park.

What are the opening times?

Park Güell is open all year round, with the opening hours changing seasonally. Last entries are 30 minutes before closing.

• Summer: 9:30 AM to 8 PM
• Winter: 9:30 AM to 6 PM

Local residents and Gaudir Més members are allowed entry at 7 AM and can stay for two extra hours after closing.

Is it wheelchair friendly?

Due to its unique architecture and design, Park Güell has uneven surfaces and steep ramps in certain sections that are not wheelchair friendly. However, there are two recommended routes for wheelchair users and visitors with impaired mobility that cover many iconic attractions within the park. These routes begin at the Carretera del Carmel and Marianao entrances.

When is the best time to visit Park Güell?

The best time to visit Park Güell is during the shoulder seasons (April-June and September-October), when the weather is pleasant and crowds are less dense. Early morning (before 9:30 AM) or late afternoon (after 5 PM) visits are generally quieter and offer great light conditions for photos. Visiting during weekdays also helps avoid weekend crowds.

• Park Güell is open all year round and Barcelona typically enjoys warm weather, however, it might be wise to bring a jacket or thicker coat during the winter months.
• The park is expansive with uneven pathways, stairs, and some uphill walking. Wear suitable footwear for walking and exploration.
• Bring a water bottle, especially during warmer months. There are few places to buy drinks inside the Monumental Zone.
• Remember, while the Monumental Zone requires a ticket, the rest of Park Güell is free to explore. It's larger and offers many beautiful views and spots as well.
