Following the trailhead with the same name as its 24-meter-high waterfall, Rainbow Falls gains its nickname because when the sun is shining, a rainbow glimmers in the air around it.
As you arrive at Laurel Falls, spot mountain laurel blossoming along the trail and around the waterfall in shades of soft pinks (in May). As one of the most popular walks in the park, the hike along Laurel Falls Trail is a two-hour round-trip.
A second spot whose name helps paint a picture; The Place of a Thousand Drips is one of the waterfalls in the park accessible by car, with no hiking needed to reach it. Diverging into plentiful small cascades, it’s a spectacular sight to behold.
The soaring 36-meter-high Mingo Falls can be found just outside the National Park’s perimeters, and it’s one of the tallest waterfalls in the area. Follow Pigeon Creek Trail for just over half a kilometer to reach it.

After perhaps spending a couple of hours across the road at the Ripley’s Aquarium, the Tennessee Cider Company is the perfect spot to sit back and unwind.
Centrally located at the Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg, this watering hole is heaven on Earth for cider lovers.
Try a few of the local creations in Gatlinburg’s first Hard Cider tasting room, before grabbing a take-home growler or two of your favorite flavor.
The company takes pride in making traditional fresh tastes made from hand-picked apples from local farms.
59 – Go zorbing at Gatlinburg’s Outdoor Gravity Park
If you’ve seen videos of people tumbling down the hills in giant bubbles (AKA zorb balls) and always wanted to try it for yourself, head to the Outdoor Gravity Park — the only dedicated zorbing park in the country.
So long as you don’t get too motion sick, tumbling down that 1,000-foot tall hill in a giant bubble is undeniably one of the most fun things to do in Gatlinburg.
