Tours & activities in Cairns

There’s a level of understanding that casual travelers have when it comes to the gateway city of Cairns. It’s well-known for being the perfect entry point for those who want to visit the Great Barrier Reef and explore everything that Queensland has to offer - and yet, even such a grand description doesn’t do justice to the adventures that can be had here.

Cairns tours are expansive in the way that they stretch out across the coastline and all around the great state, providing visitors with an experience unlike anything they’ve ever seen before.

Nobody ever really puts much value into it beyond the Great Barrier Reef, with the majority opting to head to one of the bigger cities like Sydney or Melbourne. While we can understand the appeal and believe there are plenty of great things to see and do, Cairns is the real diamond amongst the gorgeous Australian landscape.

Our aim here is simple: to open up the eyes of the masses to the endless possibilities that lie beneath the surface in this fantastic area.

You may not think it’s going to be your cup of tea, but trust us when we say it has the potential to be the trip of a lifetime.

Sightseeing Tours

The classic stereotype associated with any and all holidays is that “sightseeing” is at the top of the agenda - and while it may seem a little bit played out, we tend to think that’s true.

It’s easy enough to sit on the beach all day and just really relax in the moment but in addition to that, the spirit of exploration needs to be valued and utilized to the fullest extent.

Cairns itself, as a city, reaches different corners of Australian culture that many folks regularly take for granted.

From the reefs to the rainforests there are plenty of unique landscapes to investigate on any and all of the sightseeing tours that are available.

You can head out onto the harbor, take a look around the Aquarium, walk around some museums and so much more.

Cities are at their best when they can combine together all of the elements and create a wonderful concoction of diversity. Cairns may not be seen as the perfect example of that by some, but we think they come pretty close to hitting the mark.

Day Trips & Excursions

To suggest that there are plenty of day trips & tours out there in and around the Cairns area would be a gross understatement of epic proportions. Instead of simply being restricted to the city limits, Cairns tours extend to the far corners of Queensland and to more cultural hubs than we could ever possibly count.

It’s not a case of worrying about not having much to do on any given day out, but instead, it’s concerning yourself with the prospect of not being able to fit it all in.

The Great Barrier Reef lives at the heart of so many of these trips as visitors venture out onto the open water and really get to grips with the crystal blue waters that lie beneath them. Alas, that isn’t all, with many other areas delving deep into the wildlife that makes Australia what it is.

Kuranda, Paronella Park, Barron Gorge, Fitzroy Island, Mossman Gorge, Cape Tribulation - it’s like being invited into a fairytale that just never ends.

There are some individuals who will want to craft their own tours and who want to allow their imaginations to run wild, which we can completely understand, but it rarely hurts to get a bit of help.

Outdoor Activities

Ever felt like going white-water rafting in one of the most extreme, remote destinations on the planet? If the answer is inevitably yes, then checking out some of these outdoor activities tours is probably going to be the best route forward.

Everyone is different and everyone has a different take on what it means to have fun - which is why adrenaline junkies exist.

Hiking and walking around some of the wooded areas and general wildlife is going to be high and the priority list here, but being out on the open water is where the core focus is going to be at.

There are multiple openings for going snorkelling and diving, as well as catamaran tours that provide more of an insight into the history behind the Great Barrier Reef.

There are plenty of countries out there that have the sort of climate which would make most of us want to weep, but that isn’t the case in Australia. This place knows how to embrace life and often has the sun shining down on us all.

So get out there and immerse yourself in the luxuries of the great outdoors, because you only live once.

Food & Wine Experiences

Sitting down and sampling some delicious Australian cuisine is one of the things we recommend the most within the city of Cairns, and that goes hand in hand with the idea that Australian wine is absolutely to die for.

There are food and wine tours located across the city including a private gourmet picnic lunch on the beach, the Australian outback food tasting tour which is the purest definition of authentic you’ll ever see, and the Atherton Tablelands wine tasting tour.

These experiences are special and prove that having a meal or a drink can be so much more than just a standard part of your day.

Theme Parks

Theme parks, and parks in general, may sometimes seem and feel like they aren’t intended to be enjoyed by adults - but we really resent that idea.

There’s something to be said for what these parks can give travelers especially in a country like Australia which is known for being incredibly different to the rest of the world.

A lot of the excitement tends to stem from the art of viewing animals in their natural habitat. We all know the nation is home to some super creepy and also very elegant animals, which can be used as a reason to either head on down there or avoid it altogether.

We tend to think taking a risk or two is a healthy idea and visiting some of these parks provides us with that sensation. Hartley’s Crocodile Adventure, Cairns Aquarium, Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld Kuranda and Kuranda Koala Gardens all revolve around animals in different ways - and we love that.

When combined with the Kuranda Rainforestation Nature Park and Cairns ZOOM and Wildlife Dome, it becomes as clear as day that there is fun for all the family in just about any park you enter during your stay.

Multi-Day Trips

Nobody can fit the entirety of what Cairns has to offer into one single day, and more often than not, it can even be tricky to do so in an entire week. However, one way of making it easier for yourself is by enlisting the help of different tours and experts who know every inch of the area and can guide you around with ease.

Multi-day tours may not be something that tourists who want to relax are interested in, but it comes down to taking risks and stepping outside your comfort zone. It’s a brave thing to do and upon booking, the excitement can start to build.

The way in which these tours throw so many different ideas into the fire is great, from the three-day combo of Daintree, Great Barrier Reef and Kuranda to the mega North Queensland trip that includes Atherton Tablelands, Cooktown and Daintree.

It’s all about encapsulating the stereotypes of Cairns alongside the lesser-known parts of the region. Again, tastes will vary, but some tours allow you to pick and choose where exactly you go and what you want to see.

That’s all well and good, but making surprise discoveries is just as cool too.

Airport Transfers

Before all of the fun and entertainment can begin, actually getting from Cairns Airport to the city is essential to ensuring a smooth transition from travel to relaxation and adventure.

There are private and shared airport transfers available as well as different forms of transport too, including a luxury van or maybe even a shuttle bus.

This is a very different part of Australia when examining it as a direct comparison to some of the bigger cities, and because of that, everything is a little bit more personalized.

When you’re aiming to have a good time on holiday, that’s always welcomed.

Shore Excursions

If anyone is looking for the true meaning of luxury, you might want to start with some of these insane shore excursions.

There are cruises that’ll make your jaw drop, sights & surroundings tours that introduce entirely new senses into the mix, and a look at a waterfall and rainforest tour that is quite simply larger than life.

Nobody knows what it means to take a look on the other side of life than those who have been to Queensland before. If you want to join the exclusive group of lucky people who have had their lives changed, then feel free to take the plunge.
