The entrance to Jameos del Agua is via the collapsed lava tunnel of La Corona Volcano, which erupted thousands of years ago and left behind this unique location enhanced by César Manrique.

As you descend, you will discover Jameos Chico, a subterranean lagoon where unique blind crabs thrive. The lagoon is 7 meter deep and provides a home to over 70 endemic species, the blind crab among them. Its azure water stands in stark contrast to the surrounding black volcanic rock, and you can also find a restaurant here that will provide you with one of the most unique dining experiences.

Further on, the spacious Jameos Grande houses a lush garden and an iconic swimming pool, designed by César Manrique. As you wander through the verdant foliage, you will marvel at the tropical palms and endemic vegetation. Birdsong will accompany you as you explore this area.

The final stop on this inspiring route is Jameos de la Cazuela, the natural concert hall with amazing acoustics. How to get there?

Jameos del Agua is located at Carreta Arrieta in Lanzarote. To get there, follow the Órzola South or North depending on your starting point.

You can either make your own travel arrangements by hiring a car or using the public bus system on the island.

What are the opening times?

Jameos del Agua is open 365 days a year between 10 AM and 5:15 PM.

There is a restaurant at the site that is open between 12:15 AM and 3:45 PM.

On Fridays, you can dine at the restaurant and enjoy a night of concerts and dancing between 7 PM and 12 AM.

When is the best time to visit Jameos del Agua?

If possible, try and schedule your visit to Jameos del Agua early in the morning to avoid long queues and crowded spaces.

Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are ideal times to visit this location, with moderate temperatures and only a very slim chance of rain. This is also when the tourist crowds will be fewer.
