It is the main entrance to the Casements (underground corridors) with projections of the development of Vyšehrad.
The Gorlice is the largest underground space at Vyšehrad, measuring 330 square meters and 13 meters in height. It was built as part of the Baroque fortifications as a gathering place for troops, as well as for food storage and munitions.
Opened to the public in the 1990s, the Gorlice now houses six of the original statues from the Charles Bridge.
The Gothic cellar houses an exhibition presenting the activity in Vyšehrad as early as the 4th millennium B.C.
It is a remnant of one of four palaces built in the royal courtyard precinct during Charles IV’s reign. The royal courtyard buildings were destroyed in 1420 during the Hussian Wars, and the ruins were later removed.
The building dates from the 17th century and was probably part of a medieval guard tower. The gallery now focuses on the work of young authors and artists.
The building originally is a palace building erected during Charles IV’s reign and now houses an auditorium for 90 spectators.
Vyšehrad Castle is over 3 kilometers southeast of Prague Castle, which takes about 20 minutes to drive. You can take the train from Malostranská station to reach Vyšehrad in about 25 minutes.
Opening hours for Vyšehrad Castle are from 10 AM to 6 PM for the whole week from January to December. The Castle will be open from 10 AM to 14 PM on 24 and 31 December, but closed on Dec. 25 and 26, and Jan. 1.
Morning is the best time to visit Vyšehrad Castle, so you can avoid the crowds. For the best weather, visit the castle from May to September. If you prefer the heat, the warmest month in Prague is July.
