The Lobkowicz Palace was built by a Bohemian nobleman, Jaroslav of Pernstein, in the mid-16th century.
It came into the possession of the Lobkowicz family in 1603 and was passed down to each prince for 300 years.
The palace saw significant changes following the Thirty Years War (1618–1648), especially regarding the Baroque halls when the ceilings were decorated with elaborate stucco and frescoes.
The Palace was confiscated by the Nazis in 1939 but returned to the family after the war. It was seized again, however, by the Communists in 1948.
For the following four decades, the Palace was used as state offices and for other purposes.
In 2002, the Lobkowicz family became the rightful owner of the Palace again and, six years later, opened the beautiful building and collections to the public.
The Lobkowicz Collections include a precious art collection and a collection of arms and armor, and ceramics.
It also boasts a unique collection of musical instruments, old manuscripts and musical scores, and the oldest and most extensive private library in Central Europe.

The museum and museum shop will be closed on Dec 24.
