You may book Alcazar tickets onsite at the entrance gate. If you wish to skip the line, you can book a guided tour on the official website or with an online travel agencies such as Viator or Getyourguide. Guided tours are a little bit more expensive but you won't queue up and head straight inside with your guide.

What will you see and do?

The Alcazar of Cordoba has been recognized as a Cultural Interest Heritage site since 1931. It is part of the Historic Center of Cordoba that is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Alcazar of Cordoba is a perfect illustration of the development of Cordoban architecture through the ages. It used to be the residence of  Roman governors, Moorish caliphs, and later became the home of  the Spanish kings. Its history is nearly unrivaled in Spain and was the place where monarchs held court for more than 150 years.

Visitors from the west will appreciate the site as the location where Christopher Columbus visited and outlined his plans for an excursion to India.

The fortress was also used during its intricate history as a forum and military jail. It is home to several impressive ancient artifacts. The artifacts include Roman tessellations from the second century and sarcophaguses from the third century.

The splendid backyard gardens are one of the highlights as visitors appreciate gorgeous fountains, perfectly-trimmed hedges, and rich bassins.

Finally the complex is surrounded by huge falls with four towers. The rising structures are known as Lion’s Tower, Homenaje Tower, Vela Tower, and River Tower. The castle sits directly to the side of the Guadalquivir River and Grand Mosque.

What is the best time to visit the Alcazar of Cordoba? How to avoid the crowd?

Seeing the fortress earlier in the day may allow you to beat some of the crowds. Please remember that the Alcazar of Cordoba is closed on Mondays.

What are the Alcazar of Cordoba opening hours?

The Alcazar of Cordoba has two different operating schedules:

Low Season (September 16 - June 15)

• Tuesday-Friday: 8:15 am - 8 pm
• Saturday: 9:30 am - 6 pm
• Sundays/Holidays: 8:15 am - 2:45 pm
• Mondays: Closed

High Season (June 16 - September 15)

• Tuesday-Sunday: 8:45 am - 3:15 pm
• Mondays: Closed

Please note that final admittance for the day is offered 30 minutes before the Alcazar of Cordoba closes for the day.

Travel Tips

• Book your tickets in advance. Alcazar tickets that are purchased early can save you time and hassle. Avoid waiting at the ticket office the day you are visiting the monument.
• Get to the Alcazar early in the day. You may beat some of the crowds and ensure there is plenty of time to witness the important exhibit. Furthermore, gates close to the Alcazar of Cordoba 30 minutes before the monument closes for the day.
• Wheelchair accessibility is not provided. Please note that unfortunately the Alcázar of Cordoba is not accommodating to wheelchairs.
