The Món Sant Benet Monastery is one of the best-preserved such complexes in Catalonia, with both medieval and modernist influences still apparent. You can explore both the old and new areas as you wander around the settlement.

Initially used by monks, the site was later annexed to Montserrat Monastery and used as an art school. In more recent history, the monastery became a summer residence for modernist painter Ramon Casas.

The current church dates to the 12th century and is Romanesque in design – there’s a small cloister that makes for eye-catching photos. You’ll also get to see the wine cellar and some of the cells once used by the monks.

How to travel to the Monastery Món Sant Benet?

Món Sant Benet Monastery is located 68 kilometers north of Barcelona and is best visited on a day trip from the city. The journey takes about an hour by car.

Heading out of the center of Barcelona, take the C-58 highway to Terrassa, then the C-16 to exit 54 at St. Fruitós de Bages. From there, follow the N-141 in the direction of Navarcles and you’ll soon see signs for the monastery.

When can you visit the Monastery Món Sant Benet?

Monastery Món Sant Benet entry is available from Tuesday to Sunday, with the site being closed on Monday. You’ll need to book a time slot – these are usually available between 10:30 AM and 5 PM.

Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends, but the remote location means that it never feels too busy.
