Italy’s capital of fashion and commerce is a delightful collection of contrasts. Medieval structures brush shoulders with innovative ecological architecture. Glittering skyscrapers sit across the street from a 17th-century palazzo. Roman ruins hold steady next to night clubs and cafes.

This welcoming city is an economic heavy hitter that still preserves centuries of charm. With verdant parks, medieval squares and ultra-modern business district, see more of the multifaceted capital of Lombardy on a segway tour in Milan.

Here's all you need to know about segway tours, one of the most captivating sightseeing tours in Milan.

What are the best segway tours in Milan

Segway sightseeing tours

What better way to explore a city than on a guided segway tour? Cover more ground in less time while trying out a new type of two-wheeled travel. Once you’ve gotten the hang of using a segway, follow your guide through Milan’s ancient streets to see the city’s top destinations.

On a 2- to 3-hour segway tour, hear your guide’s commentary with the help of headsets, and make stops at important sites to hear the backstory of places like Sforzesco Castle, the Mermaids’ Bridge and the Duomo. Segway tours will leave you with richer knowledge of Milan and plenty of ideas for what you want to explore further.

Night segway tours

Zip through Milan's illuminated cobbled streets on a segway with a guide who's eager to show you the city in a different light. Night segway tours last 2.5 hours and hit Milan's highlights.

Lit up for the night, Milan is more beautiful than ever. On a night segway tour, the city sites are more pronounced. The ornate facade of the Duomo seems to glow while the glassy forms of the Unicredit and Diamond Towers rise above ancient buildings. A night segway tour is filled with unique photo ops.

Private segway tours

Move at your own pace, customize your itinerary and have a guide’s attention all to yourself and your group. Choose a private segway tour of 1.5 to 4 hours that takes you to the best of Milan or highlights specific neighborhoods like Brera or Navigli.

Which places are visited?

Sempione Park

Just west of the historic center of Milan is a green space surrounding some of the city’s biggest attractions. The vast Parco Sempione is an urban oasis, perfect for picnics and strolls as well as cultural experiences. The park is a must-see stop on most segway tours.

Parco Sempione encircles the Arco della Pace, Triennale Milano, the Ponte delle Sirenette, Sforzesco Castle and more. Glide down shaded paths for a peaceful moment between stops on your segway tour.

At the northwest entrance to the park sits the neoclassical Peace monument, the Arco della Pace. Follow walkways toward the Triennale Milano, a 90-year-old cultural space that houses art installations and hosts events. Cut through the center of the park to spy the Ponte delle Sirenette, an enchanting pedestrian bridge guarded by four mermaid statues.

Sforzesco Castle is the star of Sempione Park. Set opposite to the Arco della Pace at the far end of the park, the 15th-century fortress occupies the site of a Roman stronghold as well as the medieval castle’s 14th-century ruins. Wander the castle’s grounds and snap photos of its fountains and gardens. Return after your segway tour for a visit inside the castle to check out its many museum exhibits.

Piazza Mercanti

Next to the Piazza del Duomo sits the sheltered Piazza Mercanti. Some of the world’s most famous buildings of the Middle Ages are found here. The piazza was once the governmental and economic center of Milan. See the medieval palaces and square with its ancient well in this pedestrian-only pocket of Milan.

The Duomo

Just steps away from Piazza Mercanti is the Duomo, Milan’s 600-year-old cathedral. The massive structure is adorned with more statues than any other building in the world. There are 3,400 figures perched atop mini spires surround the church and are breathtaking when the facade is lit after nightfall.

Porta Nuova

Porta Nuova is appropriately named, as it is the most modern corner of Milan. Ironically, the “new gate” itself is one of the oldest structures in the area, dating back to the genesis of the city.

Porta Nuova is now the commercial and governmental hub of Milan. Translated as “new gate” in Italian, the district is home to Italy’s tallest skyscraper, the Unicredit tower, as well as the Lombardy regional government building and the eye-catching Diamond Tower.

Don’t miss the “Bosco Verticale,” or “vertical forest,” a set of apartment buildings bedecked with over 1,000 trees and bushes.
