6 – Learn some local history at the Orange Beach Indian & Sea Museum
This small museum with a truly eclectic collection is housed in a 1910 former schoolhouse. Rather than focusing on specific collections, the museum chronicles the local Native American heritage and fishing history through items donated by locals through the years.
You’ll find items representing the early fishing industry in Orange Beach, Native American artifacts, an old dug-out canoe, a dolphin skull, and plenty of personal items and memorabilia from local residents. There are even a few handmade scrapbooks covering hurricanes and oil spills that have occurred in the area, as well as memories of WWII times.
Admission is free and a visit will only take about half an hour, so well worth it if you’re in the area. The museum sometimes has interesting free “souvenirs” people can take home, such as small shards of old Native American pottery.
7 – Grab a drink on a floating Tiki bar
If you want to watch the sunset with a drink in your hand, a 90-minute sunset cruise on a floating tiki bar might just be the perfect adventure.
Forget traditional boats – in this tour, you’ll jump aboard a floating tiki bar and sail along the coastline. Keep your eyes open for dolphins or just enjoy the views over the water as you cruise past the Perdido Pass while listening to music and sipping your favorite cocktail.

Though only 25 acres, this little zoo is home to almost 200 species, including over 50 primates, two dromedary camels, three endangered Bengal tigers, and an American Black Bear.
A tropical oasis filled with paved paths and shaded spaces and benches to take a break, the zoo also offers a restaurant and a gift shop so you can take a nice souvenir or two home.
Kids will love the petting zoo where they can pet deer and sheep, and there are also educational stage shows and a reptile house to get up close to everything from snakes to iguanas.
The zoo’s very popular Animal Encounter exhibits offer a chance to learn about unique animals and maybe pose for a photo or two with a sloth or an anteater.
10 – Embrace culture at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach
Focused on Gulf coast artists and overlooking the beautiful Wolf Bay, this massive art gallery is a great place to spend a few hours. Aside from paintings and watercolors, exhibitions in the gallery cover sculpture, photography, and even textiles.
In addition to the great art hanging on the wall, the center also offers two hands-on experiences. Visit the clay studio to create your own pottery or figurines, or stop by the Hot Shop studio to experience glass blowing.
Adult art classes are available throughout the year, and you can pick up free information at the front desk for your very own art scavenger hunt as you walk through the gallery. Visiting on a nice sunny day? You can use the grounds around the gallery for a picnic.
Every year in March, the gallery is part of the Orange Beach Festival of Art, where you can find great art to take home and enjoy free music and entertainment.
11 – Meet creatures big and small at Gulf State Park
With over 6,500 acres of beautiful land, beaches, fresh-water lakes, and pine forest, Gulf State Park will keep you busy for days.
Many come here to enjoy the soft powdery coastline that stretches for 2.5 miles and offers great swimming, fishing, and kayak rentals. You can even spend the night at a campground near the beach – or choose among the several cottages, cabins, and campsites located deeper within the park.
Up for some hiking? The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is located here and is great for not only hikers but also cyclists and even families with young kids. Some sections of the trail are Segway-friendly and the bike offers a free bike share program so you don’t even have to worry about bringing your own.
Lake Shelby in the heart of the park is perfect for swimming and boating and visitors can even grab a quick fishing license too. Picnic tables can be found throughout the park and at the Beach Pavillion – and while you’re there you should also visit the park’s Interpretive Center to learn more about the flora and fauna that live here.
12 – Relax for a few hours at the Orange Beach Waterfront Park
Located on beautiful Wolf Bay, this great park offers a great escape on a hot day – and one that will cost nothing, as all the activities here are completely free.
Bring some food (there are covered picnic shelters with grills if you feel like having a BBQ), a nice playground with plenty of areas to climb and have fun, and a paved path to explore (perfect if you’re traveling with young kids).
One of the main attractions here is the 400-foot-long fishing pier – but don’t worry, you don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy it. You can simply walk its length, sit back and relax on the benches, and enjoy the views.
A great place for a break during your visit to Orange Beach, the park is a nice green escape and sometimes a great place to spot marine wildlife in the distance.
13 – Learn about the local ecosystem at Gulf State Park Nature Center
A living museum of nature native to the Gulf Coast area, this small center is a great place to learn more about plants, animals, and natural resources. You’ll find a number of exhibits describing the local environment, specimens, and photos of unique natural spaces and animals.
Outside the building, there’s plenty of wildlife to see (say hi to the turtles while you’re there), plus a beautiful nearby lake and plenty of spaces to sit down and enjoy the clean air.
The center runs weekly programs and events that included guided walks at local beaches, parks, and even at the pier. Although visiting the center is free, the building is located within the park’s campground, so you’ll have to pay a small fee to enter the campground.
14 – Shop at the Blalock Seafood and Specialty Market
Located in neighboring Gulf Shores, this specialty seafood market is a shopping experience like no other. The market is especially famous for its shrimp, taken directly from the waters on the Gulf Coast, but visitors can also find a large selection of fresh seafood. Pick up some tuna or snapper, grab some oysters, or ask for the seasonal fish.
Don’t feel like cooking? You can grab a to-go dinner with all the fixings and enjoy it at your hotel. The market also sells ready-made items like smoked tuna dip and shrimp bisque, as well as gourmet seasonings, fine cheese, and rubs you can use to recreate the local flavors at home. Don’t forget to grab a bottle of vintage wine while you’re there.

20 – Get your next meal from Lartigue’s Original Fresh Seafood Market
Orange Beach’s other fresh seafood market is slightly smaller but just as great, with a full to-go menu that won’t disappoint. Choose red or Gulf shrimp (both steamed and seasoned), grab some mussels or oysters by the box, or take some crabmeat home.
Lartigue also sells a number of side dishes to go, including tuna dip, cajun cheesy crab dip, corn on the cob, and a popular smoked salmon spread. Oven-ready specialties include their famous crawfish fettuccine casserole and jalapeno crab cakes.
Too far from home to carry fresh fish back? You can pick up some specialty items like soups, packed dips, and seasonings. Or get a chuckle from friends with their homemade “Butt Fire” Signature Hot Sauce bottle. They even have their own cookbooks if you want to replicate their dishes at home.

If you’ve always been fascinated by the prehistoric Stonehenge monument but haven’t been able to make it to England yet, you’re in luck. Alabama has its own version of it.
Located near the Barber Marina and built entirely of fiberglass, Bamahenge is a full-scale replica of the original.
Like Stonehenge, the stones here are up to 21 feet tall, while the whole installation circle is over 100 feet wide and set so the sun rises over the same spot over the rocks.
While in the area, keep following the path that leads into the surrounding forests and you’ll run into several dinosaur (including a T. rex and a triceratops) statues. They were originally designed by Virginia artist Mark Cline at the request of eccentric local billionaire George Barber. Cline then added a 50-foot-long fiberglass “lady of the lake” statue that sits in the marina waters.

Civil Axe Throwing is the first axe-throwing venue to open in Orange Beach. They offer one and two-hour-long sessions for anybody over 10 years old.
