44 – Search for the WWII Flying Boat Wrecks
Roebuck Bay is one of the only places in the world with so many artifacts left on its sea floor, that when the tide gets low, people are able to walk a few kilometers and find themselves with relics of the WWll flying boat wrecks, many of them in decent condition!
When the tides lower, plan to walk out into the mudflats from Town Beach, across the Roebuck Bay mud flats, to encounter the ruins of a WWll flying boat. With over 100 lives lost in this catastrophe, the area is considered a war grave, which is important to keep in mind.
The walk takes around 1 hour from town to the site but must be planned according to the tide schedule. Tours are available for easier access.
Wear appropriate water shoes to walk through the sticky mud, and protect you from sharp objects.

These events center around the changing seasons and what that looks like in space, the famous “Staircase To The Moon” event as well as analyzing the different moon phases.
46 – Witness the Staircase To The Moon
A natural phenomenon that takes place in Broome where the moon rises and casts its glow to highlight the mud flats, emulating access to the moon from earth, is called Staircase To The Moon.
The event takes place between March and late October during the full moon and is best seen from Town Beach. During this event, you’ll see dozens of people flock to the area, as well as a few stands selling food and accessories, commemorating this celebration of nature and space.
The bright, full moon illuminates the night sky in a gold color, as well as the sea and mudflats below, leaving everyone in amazement. It’s one of the top natural sights to experience in Broome according to locals!
To get the specific date and additional information on this spectacular moon event, check out the event’s website.
