There’s no more picturesque way to get from Mount Faber to Sentosa Island than to take the gondola cable car line. The Sentosa Cable Car departs from the main island and crosses over the harbor (one of the very few cable lines in the world to do this), with six station stops along the way. A second line runs from Merlion Station to the Siloso Point Station.

With 67 comfortable glass cabins that can carry eight passengers each, the cable car is not only an excellent way to travel but also one of the best ways to catch the skyline views, especially at sunset.

For the ultimate experience, try cable car dining under the stars. Choose between a four-course dinner, a bento meal, a four-course Japanese spread or a champagne and platter meal in your own private gondola as you watch the sunset from 100 meters up in the air.

2 – Enjoy some movie magic at Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore

Looking for fun things to do in Sentosa with kids?

Considered as one of the best theme parks in Singapore, the 62-acres Universal Studios Singapore offers 24 movie-themed rides and shows divided into six zones: Hollywood, New York City, Ancient Egypt, Sci-Fi City, The Lost World, and Far Far Away.

You’ll also find restaurants, food carts, and retail stores matching the area’s theme in each of them. The center of the park is a massive lagoon, with themed zones organized all around it.

The park’s entrance is through Hollywood, which mostly features movie-inspired backgrounds, a few restaurants, and a replica of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition to a theater presenting live musicals, there’s also the Hollywood Dreams Light-Up Parade here plus Meet & Greets with many famous characters — including the Minions from Despicable Me, Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner, and many more.

Sci-Fi City is home to the park’s two biggest roller coasters: a sit-down coaster and a more extreme coaster with big inversions. There’s also a 4-D dark motion simulator ride in this zone.

The Ancient Egypt zone’s most popular attraction is its enclosed steel roller coaster and dark ride, while The Lost World offers exciting rapids water ride and live show performances. Far Far Away is unique to Universal Studios Singapore and is modeled after Shrek’s kingdom.

5 – Stroll along the Fort Siloso Skywalk

Fort Siloso Skywalk, Sentosa

If you’re visiting Fort Siloso, you’ll notice an elevated bridge-like structure. This scenic treetop trail is located 11 floors up in the air and is 181 meters long and is a great way to reach Fort Siloso.

In fact, when you arrive at the Siloso Point Station via the Sentosa Express or cable car, you can simply walk to the Skywalk and use it to reach the fort. The skywalk is wheelchair-accessible (via an elevator) or you can brave the stairs to get you up high.

The Skywalk trail takes you over the tree canopies, offering stunning views of Singapore’s Southern Islands and Keppel Bay. Keep your eyes open for birds and other little creatures in the trees all around you. And because part of the floor is done in glass, you’ll even have a high-up view of the rainforest underneath you.

The end of the skywalk marks the start of the Fort Siloso grounds. From there, you can choose to take two trails to explore the fort or just walk around on your own.

6 – Take a peek into the past at Fort Siloso

Fort Siloso, Sentosa
Surrender Chamber at Sentosa. It depicted the formal Japanese surrender to the British in 1945 through wax models

You can arrive at Fort Siloso via the Skywalk or via the Siloso trail, which runs below the Skywalk. Be warned that the trail is the more challenging uphill option.

Fort Siloso saw some action during the Pacific War but it was closed after the end of WWII. By the 1970s, it had been converted into a military museum. As the collection grew over the years and the underground tunnels were reopened, Fort Siloso became a national monument and one of  the most popular tourist attractions in Singapore.

Today, visitors can explore it via two trails: the Heritage Trail (which takes you through the historical buildings on the grounds) or the Guns Trail if you’d rather see original cannons and weapons. Or just walk around the grounds, down into the tunnel complex, and through the battery command post and other interesting spots.

If you climb to the Fire Director Tower, you’ll find great views over the water. You’ll find wax statues, recordings, and a number of exhibits retelling the history of the fort all around.

7 – Say hi to sharks and dolphins at the S.E.A. Aquarium

S.E.A. Aquarium, Sentosa

As one of the largest aquariums in the world, it’s no surprise that S.E.A. Aquarium (South East Aquarium) is home to over 100,000 animals housed in over 45 million liters of water. This translates to some massive glass tanks, with the star of the show being the Open Ocean tank. Home to 50,000 animals with a 36-meter-tall viewing wall, the Open Ocean tank houses marine creatures of all sizes, including giant manta rays.

The entire aquarium is divided into 45 diverse habitats. Aside from the main ocean display, popular ones include an underwater shark tunnel habitat, a live coral habitat, and colorful jellyfish tanks.

There’s a touch pool where you can pet sea stars and other delicate animals, and a fascinating Shipwreck Habitat where you can see how the ocean can transform an object and transform it into a home for many species. Eels, giant crabs and dolphins also call the aquarium home.

A visit to the S.E.A. Aquarium is not only fun but also educational thanks to the many interactive exhibits throughout the park. VIP tours at the aquarium allow you to spend the night underwater with views of the Open Ocean habitat and attend a special manta ray feeding.

Top off the experience with a cold drink – you can buy one on board or bring one from the snack bar before you get on SkyHelix Sentosa. Sit back and enjoy the breeze, day or night. The last ride is at 9pm every day, so you have a chance to “fly” over the city night lights if you want to.

12 – Work on your tan at Palawan Beach

Palawan Beach, Sentosa

Of the many beaches at Sentosa, Palawan is one of the most popular. Located on the southwest coast of Sentosa, it’s a bit quieter and more relaxed than the other beaches here, attracting families rather than party-goers.

Cotton-soft sand and access to the calm crystal clear waters make this beach a favorite for swimming. Even dogs are welcome here for those who don’t want to leave their furry friends behind.

A bridge connects the beach to Palawan Island, a great place to catch sight of passing ships and a perfect place for a picnic. There are plenty of places to eat, shop and relax here too. Mediterranean Restaurant and Beach Club FOC Sentosa is located here (offering great cabanas and a pool), and the fun Hydrodash water park is nearby.

There’s also a large play area featuring water rides, a coffee shop, and a pirate ship. Palawan amphitheater offers bird shows or you can rent kayaks and paddleboards to enjoy the water.

13 – Hike to the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia

Southernmost Point of Continental Asia, Sentosa

You probably wouldn’t know about this unique landmark on Sentosa Island unless somebody directly pointed you to it. But if you love quirky facts, it might be worth visiting the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia, located just off Palawan Beach.

To get there, find the suspension bridge flanked by two tall towers rising on Palawan Beach and cross it to get to the tiny islet on the other end. You’ll see some lush greenery, a tiny sliver of sand, and a sign declaring itself the Southernmost Point.

This has been disputed by Malaysia and math is a bit sketchy as Sentosa is technically an island and not “continental Asia” – but nevertheless, it’s a fun spot for a photo and to catch the views over the sea.

Back across the bridge, make some time to climb to the walkway between the two towers. You’ll have direct views over the Singapore Straits and the tall ships and cruises approaching the coast.

14 – Get your heart pumping at Skypark Sentosa by AJ Hackett

Skypark Sentosa by AJ Hackett

If you’re up for more adventure after that, there’s also the Giant Swing, which will send you flying over the beach at speeds of up to 120km/h. You can even race your friends as you swing or pull the release to safely rush towards the ground at huge speeds.

For a bit more tame experience, you can try the Skybridge. Located 47 meters above the beach, the bridge connects the Skypark’s two towers and offers great views all around – plus a partial glass floor if you dare to look down. It’s a great way to see the world from above without having to jump!

21 – Climb up to Fort Imbiah for the history and the views

Fort Imbiah, Sentosa

The history of Mount Imbiah Battery dates back to the late 1800s. It was originally an infantry redoubt (a sort of small fort close to a larger fort for added coastal protection) built not far from Fort Siloso.

Despite its small size, 82 infantry soldiers and 19 gunners were permanently stationed there, in charge of a large gun overlooking the west side of the Singapore harbor.

While the fort was no longer in operation by the early 1900s, it was still used to store ammunition until WW II. Today, Sentosa’s Imbiah Lookout is one of the most visited spots in the area, as it offers beautiful views 65 meters over the water.

Reaching the lookout requires a short hike on the Imbiah Trail, which can be reached via the 200-meter-long Imbiah Bridge (look for signs pointing to it). The hike is beautiful, crossing several waterfalls (including the fun Rock Dragon Waterfall), stones covered in moss, lush jungle, and even a 10-meter tall bird-watching tower as you approach the summit.

What’s left of the Imbiah Battery can also be found here. This includes underground rooms, a number of buildings and the place were the coastal defense gun once stood (it was removed in the 1930s).

Singapore has its fair share of Michelin-starred restaurants. From fine cuisine to street fare to everything in between, you can eat out every night for weeks and still not go through the entire list of decadent food on offer.

But Sentosa’s very own Table65 restaurant is especially unique. A perfect example of upscale casual, Table65 does away with formality. Instead, it offers dining at a communal table, from where you can watch chefs Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot work on their dishes.

The duo, who also runs a restaurant in the Netherlands, is known for their adventurous fine cuisine. At Table65, that means unique creations that levitate, include visual tricks and provide a full-on sensory experience.

Focusing on modern and fun European cuisine for their 5-course menu, the chefs are also known for reinterpreting classics. Their signature dessert, for example, is green sorbet that has been shaped as an apple core and placed inside a giant sugar bubble.

Caviar, black truffle, and other high-end ingredients are often combined with simpler ones for a touch of the unexpected. But there are also melting chocolate domes and golden chocolate shaped as leaves. In short, this is not a place for just food — it’s an adventure on your plate.

You’ll need reservations here to secure a table, especially on weekends.

For slots fans, there’s a massive open floor space with over 2,400 games – including local favorites like Duo Fu Duo Cai and Cash Cove. Lots of penny slots as well if you’re just there for the fun and don’t care about how much you win.

As the sun sets, the festival ground turns on its lights — neon-lit structures and elaborate stage setups where international DJs and music producers play music non-stop until 8am. DJs that have performed at ZoukOut in the past include radio personality Armin Van Buuren, remix team duo Masters at Work, Grammy-nominee Paul Van Dyk, and electronic music DJ Sven Väth.

Festival themes change every year, which affects the design, colors, and events visitors will see. In addition to music, festival goers will find food trucks, activity booths, and art installations.

How to get to Sentosa?

how to get to Sentosa

Just 10-20 minutes (depending on your choice of transportation) from mainland Singapore, Sentosa Island can be easily accessed in a number of ways.

By car/taxi

Taxis traveling from Singapore to Sentosa Island usually charge a flat fee, though the amount is often higher at night or during peak times. Ask the driver about the cost before you get on. You can get a taxi through taxi booking apps, by calling a taxi hotline or by queuing at a taxi stand.

If you’re driving, you’ll have to pay a fee to enter Sentosa. You can then park at one of the car parks on the islands – public transportation on the island is excellent and a lot more convenient than driving around.

By cable car

The Singapore Cable Car Sky consists of two lines: the Mount Faber Line and the Sentosa Line. To get from the mainland to Sentosa, you need to get on the Mount Faber Line and get off at the last stop. The ride is about 15 minutes long.

You can buy either roundtrip or one-day unlimited cable car tickets. The unlimited tickets are a much better deal if you plan to ride the cable car at least three times a day.

By Sentosa Express

The Sentosa Express, a monorail line that connects mainland Singapore to the Island, is the fastest and cheapest way to reach Sentosa. To catch it, you first need to make your way to the HarbourFront MRT Station, then take the escalator up to level 3 of the VivoCity mall. The Sentosa Express departs from there for the super quick, 5-minute ride to Sentosa.

By Sentosa boardwalk

Want to save money and enjoy some stunning landscapes on your way to Sentosa? You can use the Sentosa Boardwalk (which also starts at the VivoCity Mall) to make your way to the island. This pedestrian canopy-covered walkway runs alongside Sentosa’s vehicular bridge and through five garden-themed landscapes – that include a mangrove and a rainforest — along the way.

The boardwalk is 700 meters long, but don’t worry, it’s fitted with travellators (similar to the moving walkways you’ll find at an airport). If you walk at a relaxed pace on the moving travelator, you’ll be in Sentosa in about 15 minutes.

Where to stay in Sentosa?

Sentosa might be a small island, but it’s filled with amazing hotels to cater to every need. Whether you’re looking for a unique setup, a historical location or just a beautiful tropical getaway, Sentosa won’t disappoint.

The beachfront Shangri-La is the only hotel in Sentosa with direct access to the beach. Famous for its many water activities (paddle boarding and kayaking, just to name a few), the hotel is also kid-friendly (water slides, anyone?) and home to a great on-site spa.

For ocean views and lush gardens, Capella is a great choice. The colonial building has been renovated to offer luxury at every turn, so you can feel pampered as you relax in one of the many suites or try the rooftop Jacuzzi.

The W Singapore is the place to be if you want activities galore. With one of the largest outdoor pools in Singapore, private cabanas and evening pool parties, this is the perfect option for the extroverts out there. Modern rooms, an exclusive bar serving champagne cocktails, and plenty of dining options round up the offers here.

French style meets tropical lush at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort and Spa, where you’ll find formal gardens, great restaurants, and a spa with outdoor treatment areas.

For a unique getaway you cannot find anywhere else in Singapore, there’s the Ocean Suites at Resorts World Sentosa – Beach Villas. Part of the S.E.A Aquarium, the Ocean Suites offers two-story rooms – with bedrooms that instead of windows have a glass wall that looks right into the underwater marine life.

Visiting Sentosa on a budget?

Sentosa can cost you quite a bit of money if you’re trying to fit many attractions into just a few days. But don’t worry, there are plenty of free things to do in Sentosa – pick a few of them to fit in between paid activities and you’ll end up saving quite a bit of money without even realizing it.

Fort Siloso is free to enter (and so are tours a few times a week) and you can also watch the nightly performance of the Crane Dance on the waterfront for free.

To save money on the most famous attractions, the Sentosa Fun Pass provides access to over 70 attractions with savings of up to 55% over regular prices. Buy a pass with 60, 95 or 130 tokens worth of credit and use that for your favorite activities. Ride the SkyHelix Sentosa or enjoy a Sentosa Segway Tour for 15 tokens or make your way to the S.E.A.
