While it also sits in Sierra Helada, its original purpose was more focused on defensive mechanisms; townsfolk used its lofty perch to scan the seas for signs of pirates!
Nowadays, of course, it’s more of a historic curiosity, with remarkably well-preserved stonework that showcases the construction methods of days gone by.
While it’s not in quite as good of shape as some of its newer counterparts, you can still admire its centuries-old charm, and enjoy the same vantage points that locals did some 500 years ago – minus the marauders, of course.
15 – Wander around and sample all the goods at the Benidorm markets
If shopping ‘til you drop is one of your favorite holiday activities, then the local markets should be high on your list!
While they definitely offer some excellent snacks and produce, they specialize in the odd, the rare, and the exciting – and more often than not, the locally made!
And better yet, you can shop for goodies nearly every day of the week!
As the largest of the shopping spots, Benidorm Municipal Market is a great place to start; held every Wednesday and Sunday, this sprawling hub of commerce offers domestic goods, cool clothing, and, of course, plenty of keepsakes!
Meanwhile, Benidorm Indoor Market, which runs Monday through Saturday, provides another wonderful pastiche of goods and atmosphere, with toys, electronics, and fashion accessories, plus a food court to try out new tastes.
And for the truly funk-inclined, there’s also an amazing flea market – operating Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, where locals put all their strangest and most marvelous goods out on display.
