Day Trips and Tours from Cairns

Day Trips and Tours from Cairns

The gateway city of Cairns is pretty wonderful in its own right, but the very best thing about it is just how perfectly located it is. Across the great state of Queensland there are adventures to be had and glorious destinations to be explored, and as it turns out, Day trips & Excursions from Cairns serve as the best way to get around as far as the eye can see.

It can take 15 minutes or perhaps even a few hours to reach some of these locations but with these hand-picked tours, the whole process becomes far easier. Sure, putting it all together and heading out on the open road is one idea, but heading to Australia is all about living in the moment.

Instead of worrying about the little things and all the aspects of travel that can be so frustrating, opt into tours that are going to create memories that’ll last a lifetime.

The world has been through a great deal in recent times, and we all deserve to be rewarded with a trip that needs to be seen to be believed.

Great Barrier Reef

It’s difficult to sufficiently put into words just how important the Great Barrier Reef is to this area. It’s such a widespread region all down the coast that getting through the whole thing is a near-enough impossible task, but this is potentially a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we mean that sincerely.

There are multiple different reefs that you can visit through a boat tour, there’s the option to go snorkeling and sailing, or you could just look down on the coral beauty of it all from the comfort of a helicopter. Whatever the choice may be, it’s hard to go wrong.

Daintree Rainforest

Venturing into the depths of the Rainforest is a challenging task at the best of times but with a spot like Daintree, everything becomes a little bit easier. The weather is gorgeous, the atmosphere is electric and it’s almost as if the serenity blends together with the chaos to make for the perfect combination.

Whether you want to check out what life is like for the Aboriginals or perhaps hop on a river cruise down through the calm waters, Daintree is happy to oblige. It invites us all in with a warm hug and the typical Aussie grit, and that’s difficult to replicate.

Green Island

For each and every one of the 30-40 minutes it takes to reach Green Island, you’ll be taken further away from land and out into the crystal blue wilderness. That may terrify some people but trust us when we tell you this is the definition of what paradise should look like.

As tropical as it is secluded, the Island is a haven of peace and tranquillity unlike we’ve ever seen before. On a map it’s so easy to blink and miss it but when you arrive, the first thought that comes to mind is “why isn’t everyone coming here?” - and we feel the same.

Cape Tribulation

Ultimate relaxation is tough to come by on any holiday, if only because we always feel as if we have to be moving at one million miles per hour every single second of every single day. As it turns out, that isn’t the case at all - and Cape Tribulation reminds us that taking it steady can be a good thing.

As an overlapping destination with several other spots, Cape Trib is actually a bit of a hidden gem. Visitors can go on a cruise, they could sit back and chill out on the beach, or they could even take in a bit of birdwatching - the possibilities are endless.

Kuranda Scenic Railway

Any public transport fans out there had better buckle up, because the Kuranda Scenic Railway might be the single best train you’ll ever get in your lifetime. It’s both rural and modern in equal measure with travellers having the opportunity to go back in time or modify their journey to suit their own needs.

It doesn’t matter if you want a glass of champagne or just some quiet time to take in the scenery outside, because the Scenic Railway is open to all suggestions.

Oh, and Kuranda Village itself has enough markets to take up an entire week of sightseeing.

Mossman Gorge

There’s a “get up and go” sensation that tourists will start to understand upon arriving in the great nation of Australia, and if there’s one hub in Queensland that shows this mentality off more than the rest, it’s Mossman Gorge.

This place is like fantasy island for those who want to go hiking, learn about the history of their surroundings and generally embrace the nature that surrounds us. Mossman dares us to challenge ourselves in the name of striving for greatness, and while that may sound cheesy, it’s actually quite a cathartic release.

Fitzroy Island

It’s an island within a reef within one of the most unbelievable bodies of water that you’re ever likely to see. If that isn’t enough motivation behind why Fitzroy Island is so special, we don’t know what would be.

This really is a full-day experience because staying for an hour or two is near enough impossible. It’s not like it can’t be done, it’s just that most travellers find themselves hooked in by the splendour of the white sand beaches and the wildlife around them.

You could go hiking, hang out on Nudey Beach or step onto the glass bottom boat and see what’s beneath your feet.

Barron Gorge National Park

Barron Gorge National Park takes every element of holiday memory-making to the extreme. This enclosed area swallows you whole and gives tourists an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Australian culture like never before.

The falls are obviously outstanding and we could gaze at them all day, but there are also quite a few other cool activities on offer. From white water rafting to 4WD tours and beyond, adrenaline junkies won’t exactly be short of things to do.

They say time flies when you’re having fun and boy oh boy is that true here.

Paronella Park

Jose Paronella’s dream was to build a castle and when taking a step back to really observe everything Paronella Park represents, it’s quite hard not to get emotional about it.

This place is absolutely stunning and there really is no way of getting around that. There are multiple tours available to find out more about the Paronella story, there’s a skywalk, and it’s completely unique to anything else around the entirety of Queensland.

Everyone always wants to go searching for something different on vacation, and trust us when we say you’ve found it.

Michaelmas Cay

The true connoisseurs of the Great Barrier Reef will take one look at Michaelmas Cay and think “wow, we need to go there”. It’s littered with history and coral dreams that are enough to make even the most macho of visitors get some goosebumps.

Snorkeling and sailing are part of the status quo at the Cay but there’s also a semi-submersible tour that, in our view, gives people the most realistic look at what these creatures see in their underwater travels.

This place is so memorable that even David Attenborough would be left with his jaw on the floor.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway

There are so many ways to look out into the Queensland landscape and be mesmerized, but few are quite as awe-inspiring as the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.

Every single blade of grass, every chirping bird and every small nuisance that makes up this minefield of green can be spotted from up above in the heavens.

It’s the perfect time to take stock of what’s around you and really understand the magnitude of this insane place. It links up with so many other places we’ve already mentioned, and best of all, it makes you feel like royalty.

Atherton Tablelands

The Atherton Tablelands are mindblowing, but goodness are they intimidating.

They can be defined in so many different ways from the Tablelands themselves to the overall area, and we like the idea that there’s no one given way to writhe the Atherton story. We’ve got  Herberton, Atherton, Tinaroo, Malanda, Mareeba, Millaa Millaa, the food & wine tasting tours - if you want diversity, then you’ve found it.

No stone is left unturned in this part of the world and the locals pride themselves on authenticity and the ability to make us all say “woah”.
